The red panda

1.

The red panda is the ORIGINAL panda.  It was first described in 1821, 48 years before the giant panda was found.

2.

The origin of the name "Panda" is a Nepalese word for red panda - "Nigalya poonya"- which means "eater of bamboo.”

3.

One Chinese name for the red panda is hunho or firefox, due to their colour and similar size to a fox. The web browser “Firefox” is named after them.

4.

Like giant pandas, red pandas have an extra “thumb,” which is an enlarged bone for grabbing bamboo stems.

5.

Red Pandas claws are sharp and can be pulled back like a cat.

6.

A red panda eats approximately 200,000 bamboo leaves daily.

7.

Their red and black color camouflages them from predators. The red on their backs is same color as moss found on the trees where they live. The black on their stomach makes it difficult to see them from below.

1.

A Dugong is also called a “Sea Cow”. This is because for a Cow’s meal, they swiftly graze on grass on land and Dugongs do EXACTLY the same thing but in the water and instead of regular grass they feast on seagrass (and don’t be confused with seaweed and seagrass because they may sound similar but they still have many important differences)

2.

You know those teensy-weensy animals that pretty much weighs nothing? Well, I guess it’s reasonable to say that a Dugong is NOT one of those animals. Don’t believe me? Well, a Dugong can reach the length of 11 feet and weigh up to 2,000 pounds! Can you believe that?

How do you eat your food? With utensils? With your hands? Well, you’re not the only one who has a specific way of eating. Before a Dugong swallows his seagrass he shakes his head to shake all the sand off of his meal and after he does that he can say “Bon appetit!
